Cardiff post facility Gorilla is to launch Bait Studio in a bid to tap into local demand for high-end visual effects work.

The launch will follow Gorilla’s acquisition of motion graphics company Bait, which was revealed in September and is expected to be completed in the next two weeks.

Red Wire Media director Jon Rennie has been appointed managing director of the new studio. His credits include supervising the effects on BAFTA Cymru Award winning Grandpa in my Pocket (pictured).

He will be joined by ex-Dinamo Productions duo Christian Lett and Llyr Williams as senior VFX producers.

Former BBC Wales staffer Lee Hallett has been appointed creative project manager, while Paul Nicholas, one of the original directors of Bait, has been appointed creative director.

Bait Studio, which will be part of the Gorilla Group, will build on Bait’s previous design and motion graphics work to offer design supervision and co-ordination of VFX, CGI and animation projects.
