The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has pledged its support to the National Film and Television School’s (NFTS) new Production Technology MA.

Students of the course, which has been launched to tackle a shortage of broadcast engineers, will now be offered full membership of the IET.

The NFTS will also provide a work placement programme with IET’s TV Production department to allow students to get hands-on experience in areas such as camera work, vision mixing, production management and workflow design.

IET director of knowledge Tim Hamer said: “We fully support this new Production Technology MA and the work the National Film and Television School is doing to meet the UK’s shortage of highly skilled broadcast engineers.

“This area of engineering is extremely exciting and we would encourage anyone with an interest in television and film to apply.”

The two-year postgraduate course will start in January next year. A new 4K studio (pictured) is being built by NFTS for the course.
