A reorganisation at the top of Ericsson’s media divisions has seen its two figureheads, head of broadcast and media services Thorsten Sauer and head of media solutions Elisabetta Romano, depart.

Head of global services operations Steve Nylund has been appointed head of broadcast and media services at Ericsson, replacing Sauer who has left to pursue opportunities outside of the company.

At the same time Angel Ruiz has been appointed head of media solutions, succeeding Romano who has been appointed into a new role as head of solution area packet core, business area digital services. Angel was formally chairperson for Media Solutions.

Nylund joined Ericsson in 2011 as head of sourcing within Ericsson’s Network Services business area. He was appointed as head of global services operations in 2013. He starts his new job on 1 July 2017, reporting to Magnus Mandersson, chairperson of Broadcast and Media Services.

Sauer had been in his current role for five years, having first joined Ericsson in 2001.

The head of broadcast and media services is responsible for, among other things, overseeing the department that handles playout contracts with BBC, C4, ITV, Channel 5 and BT Sport.

Ericsson’s media business was split into two separate units, Ericsson Broadcast & Media Services and Ericsson Media Solutions, earlier this year following a strategic review.

The review also the company acknowledge that it will now “pursue strategic opportunities” for the business. Options include partnerships with third parties or a sale of either or both units.
