Presteigne Broadcast Hire has taken delivery of more than £2m worth of high-end cameras, lenses and peripherals as it looks to bolster its inventory for sports coverage and other live events.

The Crawley-based dry hire company has bought kit made by Blackmagic Design, Sony, Canon and Vinten, including a host of 4K-capable devices.

Sony HDC-4300 cameras (pictured) and Canon studio, field, ENG and telephoto lenses are among the items purchased, along with Vinten Osprey Elite and Quattro SL four-stage studio pedestals.

Presteigne chief executive Mike Ransome said: “This substantial investment in 4K lenses is ample demonstration of our belief that 4K will continue to gain momentum and become, if not commonplace, then a readily achievable standard for motion pictures, television dramas and live events. We have studied our choices in this case very carefully.”

The spending spree is likely to continue throughout 2017, with Ransome having publicly stated a desire to pursue opportunities in the drama and commercials market.

The Avesco Group sold Presteigne Broadcast to its management team in September 2016 in a deal backed by NVM Private Equity.
