V-Nova, the London-based company behind the Perseus compression technology, has bought video imaging manufacturer Faroudja Enterprises’ full global patent portfolio for an undisclosed sum.

Following the purchase, V-Nova will look to add Faroudja’s patents, including its pre-processor and post-processor, to its Perseus technology.

V-Nova chief executive Guido Meardi (pictured, right) said: “Faroudja’s technology has already been demonstrated to provide a bitrate reduction of 35-50% over an existing compression technique.

“A tighter integration with Perseus will leverage the codec’s own bitrate reduction performance to provide even greater benefits.”

The Faroudja scheme complements various compression standards including MPEG-2, H.264, HEVC and Perseus.
