BBC Studios’ Daniel O’Connor to join Limitless with Chris Hemsworth indie

BBC Studios’ Daniel O’Connor, the development executive behind upcoming BBC2 series Lucy Worsley’s Keys to the Castle (w/t), is to join factual indie Nutopia, Broadcast can reveal.
Reporting to executive vice-president of development Samantha Fernandes, O’Connor will hold a similar role to his BBCS position.
He will work to boost the creative output after a string of recently announced projects including Clickbait Clinic with Stacey Dooley (w/t) for BBC1, Chris Hemsworth: Road Trip to Remember for National Geographic and Disney+, and WWII with Tom Hanks (w/t) for The History Channel.

His appointment follows the departure of vice-president of factual development Nicky Huggett who has stepped away for personal reasons.
Broadcast understands O’Connor’s appointment is not a direct replacement for Huggett, with Nutopia hopeful of the former HiddenLight development head returning to the indie in the future.
O’Connor has spent more than eight years at BBCS where his development credits include BBC2’s A Life in Ten Pictures and Deep Dive Korea for BBC Earth.
Some of his time at BBCS was spent between London and Beijing, developing original unscripted formats including Ancient Powers for Bilibili and Secrets of the Superagers for Migu.

Fernandes said: “Dan is a true development specialist and rising star. We’re thrilled to have him join Nutopia at this exciting time of creative growth and innovation.”
O’Connor added: “Having admired the scale and ambition of Nutopia’s shows for years, I can’t wait to work with Sam and the team on this next chapter.”
