The Royal Television Society (RTS) has opened up entries for the Young Technologist of the Year Award 2018.

The award, which is sponsored by IT/digital services company Atos, attempts to find the best emerging talent amongst technical staff working in broadcast and related industries. This includes broadcasters, production companies and facilities houses, hardware and software suppliers to the industry, telecommunications, and recognised research.

The awards were established using funds from the family of A.M. Beresford-Cooke – who worked on towers and masts for VHF and UHF transmission – with the aim of advancing education in the science, practice, technology and art of television and its allied fields.

Candidates need to have a strong knowledge of the industry, excellent communications skills and explain how they will share their understanding.

There is no age limit for this award, however entrants must be in the first five years of their career in television.

“This award will not only give the winner a chance to attend the premier event for the sector, but also provides a talented newcomer with the opportunity to stand out amongst their peers,” said chair of the RTS/Atos Young Technologist Of The Year Award jury, Terry Marsh.

Last year’s award winner was Kathleen Gray at NEP UK Broadcast Services. She impressed the jury with her “total commitment and dedication to delivering quality to production teams and her ability to be across every detail of her work while also seeing the bigger picture,” says RTS.

The winner will receive their award at the RTS Craft & Design Awards on 26 November 2018 at the London Hilton, Park Lane. They will receive an all-expenses paid trip to IBC (pictured above), the huge-scale European trade show held at Amsterdam in September.
