Caroline Thomson has taken on her second non-executive post since leaving the BBC in September - this time at local media firm CN Group.

The BBC’s former chief operating officer will become a board member at the company, which is based in Carlisle and owns a number of local newspapers and radio stations.

It builds on Thomson’s new responsibilities at Digital UK, where she was named chair earlier this month.

“CN has very strong local titles with a great journalistic tradition and I look forward to contributing to their continued success,” said Thomson, who lives in a town near Carlisle.

CN owns North West radio station’s including The Bay and Lakeland Radio, while its print titles encompass The Cumberland News and the Times & Star among others.

The company’s chairman Lord Inglewood said: “Caroline will bring her immense knowledge of the media, managing change and digital developments to our deliberations.”
