Merlin's US debut watched by 5m
Merlin failed to cast a spell on US viewers during its NBC debut on Sunday night when it was beaten by two repeats on rival network Fox.
The first two episodes (going out back-to-back) were due to air between 8pm and 10pm but began late after NBC’s coverage of the US Open golfing championship over-ran by eight minutes.
The show managed to pull in an average of 5 million viewers over the two episodes but was beaten by Fox repeats of animated comedies American Dad and Family Guy.
Merlin, which is produced by Shine TV for BBC1, may have had a small audience, but it still helped NBC rank second on the night for overall viewing figures.
The most-watched network of the evening was CBS, with ABC coming in third and Fox fourth.
Merlin is the first UK drama to air in a key network slot since The New Avengers aired on CBS in 1978.
