The BBC’s content boss Kate Phillips is to appear at Mipcom in October alongside BBC Studios leader Zai Bennett and chief licensing officer Shelley Macintyre to unpack the strategy behind some of the world’s longest-running entertainment franchises.

The headline conversation will see Phillips, who became the public broadcaster’s chief content officer last year, joining Bennett and Macintyre to discuss how the company is adapting to growing competition to deliver entertainment IP to audiences around the world and across platforms.

Phillips, Bennett – who was named BBCS’s chief exec and chief creative officer of global content last year – and chief exec of Brands & Licensing Mcintyre will appear in a session titled From Idea to Global IP: Building Brands That Last.

The trio will provide a deep dive into how Bluey, Dancing With The Stars, Doctor Who and BBC Earth have evolved into globally recognised brands, offering insights into the complete lifecycle of hit IP, from development and international expansion to licensing, brand extensions and the cultivation of fan communities.

The session, which takes place on Tuesday 13 October from 12:00-12:30 in the Grand Auditorium, will also explore how broadcasters, producers and distributors can identify emerging opportunities and support storytellers.

Lucy Smith, director of Mipcom and MipJunior, said: “The ability to create enduring global brands has become one of the defining challenges and opportunities for every part of our industry.

Few organisations have achieved this more consistently than the BBC, whose portfolio spans some of the world’s most recognised and beloved entertainment franchises.

“Bringing together Kate, Zai and Shelley offers Mipcom audiences a unique opportunity to hear directly from the leaders shaping how world-class IP is created, expanded and sustained.”

Mipcom takes place 12–15 October 2026 in Cannes, France.
