TikTok exec joins Tubi to drive creator push

Tubi has hired TikTok’s global head of creator marketing as the Fox-owned streamer doubles down on its strategy to tap into the creator economy.

Kudzi Chikumbu becomes vice president of creator partnerships at Tubi and wil lwork to expand its offering from creators.

Tubi already offers more than 5,000 episodes produced by creators and has struck deals with talent including Jimmy Donaldson, aka MrBeast, as it looks to expand its presence.

“Kudzi is a leader with deep roots in the creator economy. His unique perspective and proven track record make him the ideal person to partner with me to lead our ambitious efforts in digital-first, creator-driven entertainment,” said Rich Bloom, Tubi’s GM of creator programmes and executive vice president of business development.

 

Bosnian drama Komar picked up by Beta

Beta Film has picked up international distribution rights to Bosnian mystery series Komar, marking the third series that the German company and producer BH Telecom have partnered on.

The eight-hour series mystery crime series follows Mersiha (Lejla Hakalovic), who embarks on a mission to find her boyfriend who goes missing while travelling by bus through the Komar mountains.

Timur Makarevic is showrunner; Vedran Rupic and Una Gunjak share directing credits.

Beta and BH Telecom have previously worked together on fellow series I Know Your Soul and The Hollow.

 

Amazon MGM Studios rejigs in Nordics

Amazon MGM Studios has upped Emilia Widstrand to lead its Nordic originals, replacing Karin Lindström who is stepping down.

Lindström joined the company in 2021 and was behind shows including a local remake of LOL: Last One Laughing. Her next move is not yet known.

Widstrand has been with the company since 2022 and worked on shows including Blindspot. Amazon MGM Studios’ chief of Northern Europe originals, Tara Erer, revealed the news in a staff memo earlier this week.

 

UK’s More 4 unveils new slate

A Sandi Toksvig-fronted archaeology series from Salamanda Media leads a trio of commissions for More 4 in the UK.

Sandi Toksvig’s Hidden Wonders (w/t) is joined by a Strawberry Blond series with Reverand Richard Coles and double recommission of Our Farm Next Door: Amanda, Clive and Kids.

Salamanda’s Hidden Wonders (4 x 60 minutes) follows presenter Toksvig as she travels around the country to meet professional and amateur history hunters as undiscovered treasures are unearthed for the first time in centuries. Read more
