Boat Rocker alum joins Sphere Abacus

Distributor Sphere Media has appointed former Boat Rocker exec Kelly Jenkins as senior vice president of business affairs for English scripted.

Jenkins is based out of the company’s Toronto office and will work closely with creative, production, and corporate teams to help drive the development and execution of scripted projects.

Sphere Media has been expanding its scripted efforts over recent years, with upcoming productions including limited series Cold Country and This Summer Will Be Different.

 

Animal rights feature picked up by OTF

Off The Fence (OTF) has acquired a feature doc from Slay director Rebecca Loviconi that tracks ‘radical animal activists’.

Crime or Rescue follows the campaigners in real time as they rescue animals from testing facilities and factory farms, and unexpectedly fall in love during filming.

The doc is told from a first-person storytelling perspective and combines a mix of courtroom tension, moral debate and unexpected romance.

The film is produced by OTF founder Ellen Windemuth (My Octopus Teacher) and Jay Karandikar (Humans and Other Animals, Slay), with soundtrack by Moby.

 

C4 doubles down on True North duo

True North Productions has scored a double order from the UK’s Channel 4 for its lifestyle series Yorkshire By the Sea and Devon & Cornwall.

Yorkshire By the Sea will return for a 5 x 60-minute second series, celebrating the people and coastal landscape of England’s largest county North Yorkshire and neighbouring East Yorkshire.

Devon & Cornwall (5 x 60 minutes) will also return for a sixth outing, following daily life of locals, villagers, farmers, fishermen, shopkeepers and those working across the tourist industry.
