BritBox & Foxtel welcome The Game

Clapperboard-produced 5 drama The Game has been picked up by major international platforms, in a deal struck by Sphere Abacus.

The four-parter stars Jason Watkins as a retired detective who believes his new neighbour is a serial killer. It has been acquired by BritBox (North America), Foxtel Group (Australia), YLE (Finland), SVT (Sweden), Pickbox (Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Serbia and Slovenia), Virgin Media (Ireland) and Sky Free (New Zealand).

The drama premiered on 5 in the UK in May, launching with an overnight audience of 1.2m (11.2%) and averaged 1.1m (9.9%) across the series to beat the 841,000 (7%) 9pm slot average.

 

TGC lands Elixir’s YouTube formats

LA-based TGC Global Entertainment has acquired international rights to a slate of digital-first dating formats from YouTube producer Elixir.

Date on a Plate, First Dates in Bed, Red Flag Green Flag, and Talent Crush have all been added to the slate of the Phil Gurin-founded firm.

Date on a Plate features four singletons — but only from the neck up - as they compete in a series of compatibility challenges, while First Dates in Bed explores how relationships take off as singles meet in bed.

Red Flag Green Flag challenges contestants to reveal their best and worst qualities to potential partners, while Talent Crush explores how much a special gift — be it artistic, musical or athletic — can increase sex appeal.

 

Brendan Hiughes steps down at Tern NI

Tern Northern Ireland chief Brendan Hughes is retiring after 15 years at the helm with Neil Dimmock stepping up into leadership of the Zinc label’s Belfast hub.

Zinc said Hughes has “been a cornerstone of Tern’s creative output” over his decade-and-a-half, steering high-profile shows such as Con or Cure, Our Tiny Islands and Sunday Morning Live.

“His dedication, editorial vision, and leadership have helped shape Tern’s reputation for compelling factual and magazine programming from Northern Ireland,” the producer group added. Read more

 

Wedotv strikes Sky Italia deal

FAST operator Wedotv has expanded its footprint in Italy following a deal with Sky Italia.

The agreement will see Wedotv Movies Italia and Wedotv Big Stories becoming available on the pay TV platform, adding to existing carriage deals with Tivusat, Samsung TV Plus, LG Channels, Vidaa (Hisense) and Tiscali.
