American Ninja Warrior returns

NBC in the US has extended American Ninja Warrior into an 18th season that will take place in Las Vegas.

The show is based on the Japanese format Sasuke and features contestants attempting to complete an assault course, with a new round being introduced that sees competitors racing head-to-head-to-head in side-by-side races.

Filming starts this autumn and A. Smith & Co. Productions is again attached to produce.

 

ITVX acquires North American true crime shows  

ITV’s streaming platform has added a pair of true crime programmes, examining a murder in Central Park and a drama about one of Canada’s largest medical disasters.

The Preppy Murder: Death in Central Park is produced by Robert Friedman’s Bungalow Media and Entertainment and is directed by Ricki Stern and Annie Sundberg. It examines the death of Jennifer Levin and exposes evidence that was inadmissible in the trial.

ITVX has also acquired Unspeakable, a drama series chronicling the emergence of HIV and Hepatitis C in Canada in the early 1980s after thousands of people were unnecessarily infected by tainted blood.

It previously aired on CBC Television and was written by Robert C. Cooper who was himself a victim that contracted Hepatitis C from tainted blood.   

 

Applause lands Jeffrey Archer novels

India’s Applause Entertainment has linked with Jeffrey Archer to adapt an array of the British author’s novels.

The agreement will see Applause gaining rights to six of Archer’s novels, including all seven books from the Clifton Chronicles series.

Other titles are: The Fourth Estate; First Among Equals; The Eleventh Commandment; Sons of Fortune; and, Heads You Win. The deal was brokered via Dream Bay Entertainment, which worked on behalf of Archer.
