The …Got Talent and …Idol formats helped FremantleMedia record a revenue rise of 19.7% - although profits dipped to just above £121m.
However, this was not enough to prevent RTL Group reporting a 13.2% drop in profits over the year. The parent company saw profit drop from £695m to £605m in 2012.
FremantleMedia’s revenues grew from £1.2bn to £1.49bn, however EBITA fell from £125m to £121m. The company’s production division was responsible for producing 9,100 hours of television programming across 62 countries, while it distributed 20,000 hours of content to more than 150 territories.
The X Factor added six new territories over the last twelve months including Sweden, Indonesia and the Philippines, while Celebrity Juice and Take Me Out were big successes in the UK.
Separately, its 101 YouTube channels registered 4.5bn views in 2012 and it launched four YouTube-funded original channels internationally.
The company started a corporate restructure in February that sees it drop the FremantleMedia Enterprises brand and house its digital and ancillary businesses more regionally.
Co-chief executives Anke Schäferkordt and Guillaume de Posch said: “Based on our strong financials, we also stepped up our investments and initiatives in our three strategic fields of broadcasting, content and digital. During 2012, RTL Group successfully launched five new TV channels. We are also building a strong and rapidly growing presence in non-linear TV and exploring the field of online video networks, with our first Youtube channels produced by FremantleMedia.”
