“Anna Krylander’s notes are so well-written that it’s a pleasure to read them,” says veteran screenwriter Peter Moffat. “They’re clear, concise and smart – just like her.”
High praise indeed, not least as the script they’re collaborating on, blood contamination drama Bad Blood, is Anna’s first factual drama project, and her first as script editor.
Starting out as a drama assistant at Channel 4, Swedish-born Anna rose to coordinator before joining World Productions as a development assistant last year. Having undertaken the 4Screenwriting course, she was ready to step up to assistant script editor on series three of BBC drama Vigil prior to working with Moffat.
“The speed with which Anna mastered the huge quantity of research material has been frankly astonishing,” the writer says. “The subject matter is sensitive, the facts are complex, the compliance issues complicated - and Anna has dealt with all of these brilliantly.
“As well as a gifted communicator, she’s a great listener with a focus and attention to detail second to none. She has made herself indispensable to the process of pre-production. Neither me nor the show could do without her. She’s unflappable, wise way beyond her years, and great company.”
Executive producer Joe Williams notes Anna’s “forensic” attention to detail to complex source material that poses significant legal and dramatic challenges. He has also observed at close hand her ability to marry rigorous analytical skills, strong creative instincts, and clear love of storytelling.
“Anna has a natural ability to identify both structural and tonal issues, articulate her thinking clearly, and communicate feedback in a way that is thoughtful, constructive and inclusive. She works extremely well with writers and creatives at all levels, helping them realise the strongest possible version of their work.”
Within World’s development team, Williams notes Anna’s collaborative spirit and ability to highlight exciting new writers, IP and stories.
Above all, though, it’s Anna’s rapid progress and confidence in taking in increasingly demanding responsibilities, that has impressed him the most.
“Anna has all the qualities needed to find success in more senior development roles, such as script executive and story producer, but has also shown a proactive interest in production,” Williams says.
“I’m confident she will one day be an excellent producer or executive producer, should she choose to pursue that path. Her attributes not only mark out Anna as a contributor to the entire team’s continued success, but as a positive force for the future of the industry.”
