Within a year of securing an internship as a development editor at Woodcut Media at the age of 21, Mitch Bannon was already editing his first documentary episode.
Fresh out of university, where he was more focused on film education, Mitch quickly built up his editing skills and soon became an editor on Sky Crime documentaries including The Killer Within and How I Caught the Killer.
Having taught himself graphics while working on sizzle edits, Mitch also delivered the title sequence graphics for Channel 5 series The Secret History of WWII.
Going freelance at 24, he secured his first commission, Brinkworth’s Accused: Guilty or Innocent and returned for three further series of the A&E Networks show.
Executive producer Susanne Curran has observed Mitch’s “creative nous and high-quality craft skills” and “maturity and emotional intelligence” in delivering an editorially and legally challenging series.
“Mitch continues to work the material – whilst handling notes, legal changes, compliance adaptations – and still makes the film shine and retain its special emotional qualities,” she says.
“While still young, what also sets Mitch apart is his patience, curiosity, and collaborative nature - all key skills to build the best show possible as part of a team.”
These are all strengths that he has brought to numerous factual productions from the likes of Arrow Media, Crackit Productions, Mentorn and October Films.
Mitch’s recently landed one of his biggest projects to date: Blink Films’ three-parter Ben Fogle in China. The production also afforded him his first opportunity to edit a full travelogue series, with a huge volume of rushes edited to tight deadlines.
