One of seven BBC assistant commissioners appointed in March 2023, Rhianna Adams-Christie has shone brightly in the corporation’s scripted team. Standout shows on which she’s worked closely with key creators include The Forge’s BBC3 comedy-drama Just Act Normal, BBC Studios’ Black Ops, Clerkenwell Films’ Cheaters and Big Deal Films’ Dreaming Whilst Black.

The role has also offered Adams-Christie the opportunity to work on a continuing drama. The Birmingham-based commissioner gained her fi rst BBC on-screen credit on series 14 of Rope Ladder Fiction’s Waterloo Road, overseeing a storyline centred on the lived experience of deafness in collaboration with a BSL actor and a deaf writer and director.

Prior to the BBC, Adams-Christie was scripted originals producer for Amazon’s Audible, building on previous script editor roles at Lime Pictures and Sister.

Adams-Christie says: “Managing a disability has shaped my character and strengthened my drive to make the industry more accessible. I’m passionate about encouraging inclusive thinking within the shows I oversee and inspiring others to push through their challenges.”

BBC drama commissioning editor Danielle Scott-Haughton says Adams-Christie brings “a wealth of experience and generosity” to the commissioner-producer relationship.

“Rhianna’s approachability, warmth and willingness to problem-solve makes collaborating with her joyful. She is thoughtful about process and her love of story is infectious.”
