‘A uniquely British channel with high production values and inspirational content, offering a huge variety of programmes to young viewers’
The words “innovation” “exceptional” and “creative” came up repeatedly when judges discussed this children’s channel. CBeebies may be more than 20 years old, but its constant innovations have allowed it to reach British children in ways few others can and to snatch the crown in this category.
The channel has a phenomenal track record in celebrating all forms of diversity, such as Mr Tumble’s unique connection with children who have learning difficulties, or Nikhil and Jay’s representation of dual heritage British Asian children – as one judge said: “No one is doing what CBeebies is doing.”
The broadcast channel reaches a weekly average of 19.7% of its target demographic (0–6-year-olds), standing 12 percentage points ahead of its closest UK competitor, as well as attracting major audiences on iPlayer, with its overall weekly reach hitting 33.5% when linear and streaming are combined.
“CBeebies is a uniquely British channel with high production values and inspirational content, offering a huge variety of programmes to young viewers,” said one judge. “It uniquely offers peer-to-peer learning, as young kids show other kids the same age how to perform a range of skills through programmes such as I Can Do It, You Can Too, which makes it hugely appealing to young children, as they love to learn from each-other.”
