Distributor also unveils Mipcom slate, including Sister’s Waiting for the Out
BritBox in North America and Australia is among the latest raft of buyers for BBC Studio’s Death Valley, which has been sold into more than 100 international markets by the producer/distributor.
The cosy crime series was launched to buyers at Mipcom last year and has now been sold into with Mystery Channel in Japan and Coupang in South Korea among buyers in Asia. In Europe, Cosmo in Spain and Greece’s Cosmote TV have also picked up the show, while TVNZ has rights in New Zealand.
The six-part series was produced by BBC Studios Comedy and written by Paul Doolan (Mammoth). It follows the unlikely crime-solving partnership between an eccentric former actor (Timothy Spall) and a disarming Welsh detective sergeant (Gwyneth Keyworth).
Janet Brown, president of global content sales at BBCS, described the show as “a distinctly British story with global appeal, brought to life by exceptional talent on and off screen.” A second season has been ordered.
BBC Studios has also unveiled its scripted slate launching at Mipcom, led by Sister’s Waiting for the Out (w/t, 6 x 50 minutes).

Elsewhere, Mint - from producers Fearless Minds and House Productions - is a darkly comic and unconventional drama about a crime family’s inner life, created, written and directed by Charlotte Regan (Scrapper).
Also on the slate is W1A spin-off Twenty Twenty Six, which has been written and directed by John Morton and is produced by Expectation.
BBCS has also confirmed that Kate Phillips, the BBC’s recently appointed chief content officer, will take to the Creative Hub stage on Monday alongisde Brown to discuss global storytelling.
