Alonso Laporta joins Spanish production firm to oversee expansion of shows with global appeal
Former Onza Producciones exec Alonso Laporta has joined BBC Studios-owned Spanish producer Brutal Media as it looks to grow its “internationally oriented” slate.
He becomes director of fiction and replaces Amparo Miralles, who joined in April 2024. Miralles’ next move is not yet known.
Laporta was most recently creator, showrunner and screenwriter on Perverso for Prime Video and Spanish broadcaster TVE, and was also behind Parot for the two companies.
Before that he was a writer on hit series El Ministerio del Tiempo for TVE, and also worked on Pequeñas Coincidencias, which debuted via Prime Video and Antena 3 in 2018.
Brutal Media was acquired by BBCS in 2024 and has a slate that includes Netflix duo The Map of Longings and Assault on the Central Bank, as well as The Academy, produced with Sony Pictures Television and Prime Video.
It is also behind Vintage for regional broadcaster 3Cat.
Raimon Masllorens, chief exec of Brutal Media, said: “[Laporta’s] experience as a creator, showrunner and screenwriter in successful projects will allow us to strengthen our creative and production capacity.
“With his leadership, we are taking another step forward in our goal of developing ambitious, innovative and internationally oriented series and films.”
Laporta added that he would focus on “continuing to build authentic and fast-paced stories that catch the audience and really excite.”
