Broadcasters and streamers in France, Germany and Finland remake Norwegian format
France’s TF1, Germany’s ProSieben/Joyn and Finland’s MTV3 have struck remake deals for Nation’s Dumbest, as distributor BBC Studios unveiled its format line-up for Mipcom.
Nation’s Dumbest was created by Norway’s Montreux Film and Fjernsyn for TV2 and TV2 Play in Sweden.
The format has already been remade in Sweden, where it debuted on TV4 last month, and has now secured a six-part remake with ProSieben in Germany, debuting next month
BBC Studios France Productions are on board TF1’s version while in Finland, Fremantle Media Finland will produce an eight-part series for MTV3. It will be known locally as Suomen Älyttömin Julkkis and starts production this winter.
The format sees celebrities fighting it out across physical and mental challenges in a bid to be eliminated from the competition as quickly as possible to avoid being crowned the nation’s dumbest.
Matt Forde, president of BBCS Global Productions, said: “Nation’s Dumbest has been an instant hit since we launched the format at Mipcom last year. With adaptations now confirmed across four European territories and more to come, this bold and entertaining concept with its humour, relatability and originality, is a perfect example of how our content travels.”
BBCS’s launches at Mipcom next month will include Wisdom of the Crowd and The Inner Circle.
Wisdom of the Crowd is from The 1% Club creators Magnum Productions and requires contestants to answer questions while also beating the average guess of a crowd of 200 people.
The Inner Circle, from Tern, provides six players with a secret cash stash of between zero and £4,000. Players must answer questions to remain in the game, with the final two given the option to share their prize money or beath their competitor to take the lot.
