Culinary series marks second project to emerge from BBC Studios pact with Korean agency Kocca
The latest project from BBC Studios’ recently struck co-production pact with Korean content agency Kocca has emerged.
12 Seas (w/t) is a four-part series co-produced by BBCS Asia and Seoul-based culinary production outfit Studio JanChi, which sees chef Edward Lee and actor Ryu Soo-young traversing South Korea’s coastline to unveil the secrets behind its most iconic seafood dishes.
The show will be broadcast on BBC Earth and BBC Player across Asia, with BBCS selling rights outside of Korea.
The show is the result of the initiative agreed by Kocca and BBCS last year to co-produce, co-develop and distribute Korean factual content to the globe, with Studio JanChi winning the pitching contest.
The first project to emerge from the pact was Deep Dive Korea: Song Ji Hyo’s Haenyeo Adventure, which saw BBCS Asia co-produce its first original with local broadcaster JTBC.
Ryan Shiotani, senior vice-president of content at BBCS Asia, said the Studio JanChi show would “offer BBC Earth audiences a new perspective on Korea and its seafood”.
Heonseok Baek, chief exec at Studio JanChi, added: “With three distinct seas, home to one of the world’s five largest tidal flats, and over 3,000 islands, the story of seafood and the ocean is inseparable from Korea and we’re looking forward to telling this story to audiences in Asia and beyond with BBC Studios.”
Studio JanChi is a subsidiary of ELTV, the producers of Netflix’s The Korean Food Rhapsody series and K-Food Show: A Nation of Taste.
