Veteran scripted exec joins fast-growing Spanish producer
Spain’s Buendía Estudios has hired scripted veteran Begoña Álvarez to its exec producer ranks.
Álvarez worked at Globomedia for more than two decades before joining Zeppelin in 2016, where she led the Spanish adaptation of the youth phenomenon Skam.
She then joined Unicorn Content as director of fiction, working on shows such as Desaparecidos (S2 and S3), El Marqués and Marusía.
Álvarez reports directly to former Viacom International Studios exec Laura Abril, who joined Buendía in 2023 as executive director of fiction and global business development.
Abril said the appointment would enable Buendía Estudios “to consolidate our growth and diversification strategy in fiction,” including further expansion of its international ambitions.
Buendía Estudios has unveiled a flurry of commissions over recent months, including shows for streamers Atresplayer and Netflix, as well as a remake of María Dueñas’ novel Sira destined for the same buyers.
Álvarez added: “I look forward to contributing my experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm to the great team that has been developing such a successful fiction catalogue in recent years.”
