Sales come ahead of scripted thriller’s second season launch on Paramount-owned UK channel

Disney+ in the UK and Canal+ in France are among buyers to have acquired the first season of scripted thriller The Game, which first aired on Paramount’s 5 last year.
The 4 x 60-minute first season - which stars Jason Watkins and Robson Green - is produced by the UK’s Clapperboard Studios and tells the story of a police detective who is haunted by a prolific serial killer who he could not catch.
Sphere Abacus has also sold the first run to TV2 (Norway), RUV (Iceland), Filmin (Portugal and Spain), Mystery Channel (Japan), Yes (Israel), Cosmote TV (Greece) and LRT (Lithuania). Disney+ also has rights in Ireland, while Canal+ and its thriller channel Polar+ have acquired French-speaking Europe, Africa, Romania and Dutch-speaking Benelux.
The Game’s second season will premiere on 5 tonight (1 September) and has already been picked up by Foxtel Group (Australia), SVT (Sweden), Sky New Zealand, TV2 (Norway), YLE (Finland), Canal+ (Romania and Dutch-speaking Benelux), Cosmote (Cyprus and Greece), LRT (Lithuania) and Pickbox (CEE).
Hana Palmer, executive director of global distribution and partnerships at SA, said the show “boasts a carefully crafted script and chilling performances delivered by two leading actors at the top of their game.”
The Game S2 is also produced by Clapperboard, written by Tom Grieves, directed by Toby Frow and executive produced by Paul Testar, Sebastian Cardwell, Rachel Gesua, Alison B Matthews, Mike Benson, Jonathan Ford and Will Stapley.
