Lea Michele reported to reprise role as Rachel Berry as other stars indicate their return

Glee

The original Glee ran between 2009 and 2015

Ryan Murphy’s touchstone 00’s musical comedy drama about a high school glee club is being rebooted for Disney+ and Hulu.

Disney shared little further information about the greenlight, other than it will be produced by 20th Television, which produced the original.

According to Variety, Lea Michele is set to return as Rachel Berry, the role that launched her career, with co-stars Heather Morris and Chord Overstreet also indicating on social media that they would be reprising their characters of Brittany S. Pierce and Sam Evans, respectively.

Glee ran for six series on Fox from 2009 to 2015 and followed high school show choir The New Directions, made up of the school misfits, and the trials and tribulations they go through, from villainous cheer coach Sue Sylvester (Jane Lynch) plotting against their success to their own personal challenges.

As well as Michele, other stars to get their start on the series include Darren Criss and Amber Riley.

The series was a phenomenon at a time, becoming known for tackling social issues and its LGBTQ+ representation. The cast’s cover versions of popular songs led to chart success, notably with Don’t Stop Believing, and saw the actors embark on a US and European concert tour.

Murphy created the series alongside Ian Brennan and Brad Falchuk, with Murphy stating in an interview recently that the three had written a reboot script and that he had been in touch with 10 of the original cast members.
