Franchise spin-offs aimed at increasing reach of 35-year-old series among younger demos

France Télévisions has expanded the universe of Banijay Entertainment’s veteran adventure competition format Fort Boyard with a drama spin-off and a creator-led live streaming experience.
The moves come ahead of the 37th season launch and will see Banijay-owned Screenline creating a 1 x 90-minute crime drama titled Meurtres à Fort Boyard (aka Murders at Fort Boyard).
The scripted series is set against the backdrop of the fortress where Fort Boyard films and follows two investigators who are forced to work together to solve a murder, despite their differences.
Camille Guichard and David Crozier write, with Florence Fauquet directing, and Olivia Côte and Marie Petiot starring.
France TV also greenlit an online spin-off based on the ALP-created format, which saw French creators Domingo, Baghera, ZeratoR and Clemquicourt exploring the iconic fortress.

The quartet took part in a series of trials with footage live streamed on Twitch. A dedicated episode is now available on the france.tv streamer and Domingo’s YouTube channel.
Banijay France chief exec Alexia Laroche-Joubert and scripted chief Frédéric Lussato said the moves were aimed at expanding the reach of the 35-year-old show.
“From the creator collaboration with Domingo to the move into scripted storytelling with Meurtres à Fort Boyard, we are opening the fort to new audiences while offering long-time fans more ways to engage and experience the brand.
“These initiatives highlight the scale, versatility and enduring appeal of this iconic global brand.”
