Warner Bros Discovery takes myrial rights to Australian Broadcasting Corporation feature-length single
Warner Bros Discovery has secured the international rights to documentary feature Diabolical: The Epstein Files for HBO Max.
The documentary, which is produced and distributed by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, traces the rise, operations, network and eventual downfall of Jeffrey Epstein.
HBO Max will have the film for the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, CEE, Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, Iceland, Cyprus, the Baltics, CIS, Malta, Israel and Ukraine, with some territories also taking linear rights.
In Diabolical, the convicted sex offender is accused of running a long-term sexual abuse and sex trafficking operation that exploited underage girls over many years. The 90-minute film also examines the alleged missed opportunities and institutional failures across law enforcement, legal and social systems that contributed to his criminal activity that went largely unchecked for years.
The film has access to first-hand accounts and insights from investigators, legal experts, journalists and others directly connected to the Epstein case. This includes survivors Lisa Phillips and Ashley Rubright, Epstein’s brother Mark Epstein and lawyer David Schoen.
Warner Bros Discovery’s senior vice-president of international unscripted content and global networks EMEA, Myriam Lopez-Otazu said the documentary is “a timely examination of a case that not only shook international headlines but profoundly affected perceptions of power and influence”.
Lopez-Otazu continued: “By exploring the scale and consequences of these crimes, the documentary provides our audiences with insight into one of the most significant and disturbing abuse cases in recent history.”
