Former CFO will work alongside chairman and fellow chief exec Brian Roberts
NBCUniversal owner Comcast has appointed Michael Cavanagh as its co-chief executive officer from next year.
Cavanagh takes on the role in January and will serve alongside Brian Roberts, who remains chairman and co-chief exec.
The former chief financial officer, who went on to become president of Comcast, will also be named to the company’s board of directors.
He joined the US telco giant following a spell at JP Morgan Chase and oversaw NBCU when former chief exec Jeff Shell departed. Most recently, he oversaw the spin-off of NBCU’s cable channels into a new company named Versant.
“Since joining Comcast a decade ago, Mike has proven himself to be a trusted and collaborative leader,” said Roberts.
“He is the ideal person to help lead Comcast as we manage the pivot we are making to drive growth across the company. Mike and I work seamlessly together, and I am thrilled to be partnering with him as Co-CEO and with the rest of our talented management team, for years to come.”
Cavanagh added: “Comcast is a special company with exceptional businesses and an incredible team. It is an honor to work with Brian and the entire Comcast NBCUniversal leadership team during this exciting and transformative time in our industry.”
