The Altruists, which is based on reporting by the New York Magazine, stars Julia Garner (Ozark) and Anthony Boyle (House of Guinness) as Caroline Ellison and Bankman-Fried respectively.

The eight-part drama tells the story of the ambitious duo as they look to remake the global financial system, before being accused of stealing $8bn.

Williams (Heated Rivalry) and Jennifer Grey (Dirty Dancing) have joined the cast in recurring roles on the show, which has Graham Moore (The Imitation Game) and Jacqueline Hoyt (The Underground Railroad) attached as co-showrunners and executive producers.

Director is James Ponsoldt (Running Point), with Vinnie Malhotra and Jessie Dicovitsky among executive producers for Higher Ground Productions, which was founded by Hilary and Chelsea Clinton.

Scoop Wasserstein for New York Magazine/Vox Media Studios, Tonia Davis, Lauren Morelli, and Garner are also attached. Other series regulars include Alex Lawther (The End of the F*ing World), Matt Rife (Rolling Loud) and Eugene Young (Veep).

The Altruists marks the latest project between Netflix and Higher Ground, following Air Force Elite: Thunderbirds, Starting 5, Bodkin, and upcoming All the Sinners Bleed.

“For nearly three years now, Sam and Caroline’s story has been my daily obsession,” Moore said.

“I’m so grateful to my friends at Netflix and Higher Ground for loving this story not only as much as I do, but in the same way that I do. And we can’t wait to show all of you why.”
