George Kay behind Swedish-language drama
Netflix has ordered a Swedish-language detective drama from the writer behind French returner Lupin, George Kay.
Stockholm-set five-parter The Case sees Kay’s Observatory Pictures tying with Sweden’s B-Reel Films (The Helicopter Heist) to produce the drama in association with New Pictures (The Long Shadow), with whom Kay has a multi-year exclusive partnership.
Kay has penned the series which is translated into Swedish by Aron Levander.
Filmed in the Swedish capital, The Case will star Jakob Oftebro (The Bridge, Agent Hamilton) as a lead investigator looking into a serial killer who is targeting his police colleagues. Peter Andersson (Estonia) will play his estranged father, a former detective, to whom he is forced to turn for help.
Additional cast includes Electra Hallman, Alexander Abdallah, Henrik Norlén, Lisette T. Pagler, Magnus Krepper, Irina Björklund, Anders Mossling and Anna Maria Käll.
Kay will exec produce alongside Willow Grylls, Matt Sandford and Kristoffer Nyholm, who will also direct. The producers are Johannes Åhlund and Ulf Synnerholm for B-Reel Films. Episode writers are Aron Levander and Emilie Robson.
Kay, who is also behind ITV drama The Long Shadow and Apple TV+ thriller Hijack, said: “I’m thrilled to be working on The Case with the Nordic Netflix team, New Pictures and B-Reel Films - the best possible partners in crime. Netflix’s director of Nordic originals Jenny Stjernströmer Björk said: “George Kay has an extraordinary gift for crafting suspenseful, character-driven stories that captivate audiences worldwide.”
The series will launch next year. It is the latest high-profile premium drama Kay has secured in as many months, following a two-series commission for Sky and HBO’s legal drama War, co-produced by Observatory Pictures and New Pictures, which will star Dominic West and Sienna Miller.
