Streamer will offer all matches to Spanish subscribers, with select games also set to air on a FTA broadcaster

Netflix has struck an eye-catching deal in Spain that will see the streamer taking exclusive rights to all matches at the FIFA World Cup 2030.

The agreement will see the streamer providing access to all 104 matches of the world’s biggest football tournament live, marking its latest major move into sports.

Spain - the reigning world champion - will be one of the three host nations at the event, alongside Morocco and Portugal.

Netflix said it would provide full live coverage of the tournament for subscribers in Spain and Andorra, featuring programs with what itr described as a “distinctly Spanish approach” before, during, and after every match.

A daily highlights show on matchdays and other content designed to build anticipation leading up to the tournament will also feature.

As part of the agreement, one match per day will be available to watch for free in Spain. A package of matches - including all of Spain’s games, both semi-finals, and the final - will also be offered to a national free-to-air broadcaster.

Details of that agreement have not yet been revealed.

The deal expands Netflix’s growing partnership with FIFA, with the streamer already holding broadcasting rights in the US and Canada to the 2027 and 2031 editions of the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Live event coverage has become a major focus for the streamer over the past 12 months, with shows such as Alex Honnold’s Taipei tower climb and coverage of Japanese baseball driving large subscriber upticks.

Greg Peters, co-chief exec, told investors earlier this year that the company expects to spend more than $1bn on live programming in 2026, pointing to its outsized impact on subscription growth.

Bela Bajaria, chief content officer at Netflix, said: “Few events bring people together quite like the World Cup. I was in the stadium this year when Spain lifted the trophy, and I experienced first-hand the passion, pride, and stories that become part of a country’s culture and live on in people’s memories for generations.
