Netflix is to expand its Money Heist (aka La Casa de Papel) universe but the global streamer has provided few details on what that expansion might look like.

A 50-second clip was released over the weekend confirming that the “world of Money Heist continues” but did not specify whether that referred to a sixth season of the original show or another spin-off project.

The move, which came ahead of the launch of the second season of spin-off Berlin, was followed by El Pais reporting that a four-part miniseries is in the works from creator Alex Pina’s Vancouver Media.

The Spanish national newspaper said production has already begun on the show, which revolves around the character of Colonel Tamayo. Netflix did not comment on the reports.

The news comes ahead of the launch of the second season of Berlin, a spin-off that debuted in 2023 with its first season becoming the streamer’s most watched show globally during its launch week.

Netflix has since experimented with the franchise by launching 12-part Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area in 2022, as well as documentaries about the series.

The original Money Heist ran to five seasons following its debut in 2018, ending five years later in December 2021.

The Netlix statement read: “Some stories start with the perfect strike. And this one changed everything. From the first heist for cash to the most artful robbery of the century, including the assault that put tons of gold from the Bank of Spain on the line, the universe of Money Heist has never stopped growing, evolving, and surprising us.

“But if there’s one thing that’s clear, it’s that the revolution NEVER ends. From now on, this is mission control for everything in the Money Heist universe. If you want in on the next plan and don’t want to miss a single move from the gang, this is the place to be. The world of Money Heist continues on Netflix.”
