Exec behind Gomorrah, ZeroZeroZero and The Young Pope had been with company for more than two decades

Sky Studios Italy’s exec vice president Nils Hartmann is to step down after more than two decades with the company.
Hartmann, who has overseen hits ranging from Gomorrah and Romanzo Criminale to The Young Pope and ZeroZeroZero, will be replaced by Sky Studios Italy’s former head of development, Emanuele Marchesi.

He will become head of Sky Studios Italia from 1 August, reporting to Sky Italia’s exec vice president of sport, news and entertainment Giuseppe De Bellis.
Marchesi will also work with Sky Studios chief exec Cécile Frout-Coutaz.
Hartmann’s next move is not yet known but his exit wraps a 23-year career at Sky Italia, which he initially joined as creative director.
He then moved across to become director of originals and his most recent exec vice presiden role, in which he led development, commissioning and production of Sky original series for Sky Italia.
His credits also include hits such as the 1992, 1993 and 1994 trilogy, financial thriller Devils, the Italian remake of Call My Agent and Gabrielle Muccino’s Gucci: Game Over, as well as the recent Gomorrah spin-off, Gomorrah:The Origins.
Hartmann also led Sky Studios Germany from 2021 to 2023 and worked on films including A Casa Tutti Bene and The Art of Joy.
