Scripted series will also air on local broadcaster SVT
Paramount and Comcast-owned streamer SkyShowtime has ordered an adaptation of Johanna Hedman’s novel The Trio, with Swedish pubcaster SVT also attached.
The six-part drama is produced by Stockholm-based SF Studios in co-production with SkyShowtime, SVT, Film Stockholm and Night Train Media. Eccho Rights will be handling international sales, with the show also set to air on SVT following a first window on SkyShowtime in Sweden.
The series is written by Veronica Zacco and is described as “a story about love, sex and passion – a reflection of the meaning of life and the relentless passage of time.”
The story follows a middle-aged man who is approached by the daughter of both of his childhood loves, throwing him back 20 years into his youth and forcing him to re-evaluate his relationships both then and now.
The Crown’s August Wittgenstein stars alongside, Felix Sandman (Sommartider), Seth Manteus (Cherries) and Rebecka Harper.
Kai Finke, chief content officer at SkyShowtime, said: “This series is a passionate and fearless exploration of desire and connection. The Trio is unlike anything else we’ve commissioned and is exactly the kind of fresh storytelling we’re proud to champion. We can’t wait for audiences to meet these thrilling characters.”
Director Anders Hazelius added: “I fell in love with the medium of film through grand, epic love stories. With the series The Trio, I finally have the chance to direct one.”
He added that the show would be “an intoxicating, passionate, and bittersweet tale of the conflict between the longing for love and the yearning for freedom.”
SkyShowtime, which is available across 20 countries in Europe, has previously partnered with SVT on Where the Sun Always Shines, from Bonus Family’s Felix Herngren.
