‘Outstanding – using technology for the benefit of the viewer and to enhance the viewing experience’
Series Buzz 16 for TNT Sports & discovery+
Buzz 16’s coverage of the Autumn nations for TNT Sports and discovery+ displayed, “Fantastic production execution and an exciting editorial lens applied to a traditional subject,” according to our judges.
The series was TNT Sports’ first foray into international rugby, and one judge thought the resulting match coverage was, “outstanding – using technology for the benefit of the viewer and to enhance the viewing experience,” while the “pre match and ancillary content was knowledgeable, funny and inclusive for newer and younger audiences”.
A number of innovative cameras were used to enhance the experience for viewers at home, including a Techno-Crane, BatCam , SpiderCam, and CineCam – with virtual reality graphics featuring across the first two.
The presentation also aimed to break barriers, with live on-pitch demonstrations from players and pundits giving fans a new form of insight for rugby.
TNT Sports also made use of being part of the Warner Bros. Discovery stable, producing a promo starring Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, J.K Simmons and Chris Evans that tied in with their film The Red One – which a judge said was a “stunning and clever use of movie star talent to attract an audience”.
Overall, the reasons for its victory were summed by one judge, who said: “The presentation looked and felt exciting and different, displaying innovation in the approach, while features integrated throughout made clever and impactful use of cross-promotional opportunities within the WBD network.”
