A familiar face at industry events, Amie Parker-Williams has built up a body of work that combines a laser-focused eye on reaching young audiences with her innate ability to imbue shows with purpose-led storytelling, often drawn from her experiences.
Take MTV Faces. Parker-Williams developed the hard-hitting, taboo-busting interview format after the birth of her first daughter. Having followed the parallel parenthood story of Ashley Cain, whose daughter was battling leukaemia, Parker-Williams felt a drive to connect with the TV personality and create a series exploring the realities of grief.
Similarly, she recently approached Dare Pictures with an idea to tackle fertility through the eyes of Geordie Shore’s Sophie Kasaei, sparking conversations about a signifi cant social issue.
A third series of Faces, looking at body image, and upcoming series Flowers For Dad (w/t), which explores masculinity, heritage, cancer and LGBTQ+ acceptance in Caribbean culture through a journey taken by Geordie Shore star Nathan Henry and his father Glen, look set to build on these foundations.
“Amie represents a rare combination of creative vision, operational rigour and inspiring leadership,” says MTV Entertainment vice-president of international digital & social Cat Collins.
Vice-president of content strategy & programming Mark Donovan adds: “Her ability to understand not only what the audience wants now but also what they will want in the future is second to none. As viewing shifts to non-traditional platforms, Amie is destined to lead the evolution of TV in this country.”
