The Banijay Americas chief executive on climbing the Grand Tetons, the power of sport and Cris Abrego
Born and bred
I was born and raised in Los Angeles, which feels unique – there aren’t many of us in the industry. Growing up here gave me a deep appreciation for the city’s rich history and its role as the epicentre of entertainment.
I shout at the telly
When watching sports! As an LA native, I’m a big fan of the Lakers, Raiders, Rams and Dodgers.
Bucket list item
Climbing the Grand Tetons was incredible. It was breathtakingly beautiful, but also a humbling reminder that the journey isn’t over until you’ve made it back down.
Passion outside TV
I love spending time outdoors, whether it’s a round of golf or a multi -day hiking adventure.
My big break
Getting my first production assistant job on Disney’s American Teacher Awards. From the moment I stepped on set, I knew this was what I wanted to do.
Best advice
Work hard. There’s no substitute for dedication and effort. Through that commitment, you not only learn but also show those around you that you truly want to be there.
Signature dish
My signature dish is steak, whether it’s cooked in cast iron, on the BBQ, or sous vide. During lockdown, I also mastered baking sourdough bread.
I’m happiest when I’m…
Watching my kids play sports. It brings me so much joy. Sports were a big part of my own upbringing and seeing them navigate both the challenges and the triumphs is equally rewarding.
Holiday destination
I’m looking forward to travelling to Costa Rica with my wife and our three kids – our 16-year-old son and our 14-year-old twin daughters.
Best pal in the industry
Cris Abrego and I have spent more than 25 years working together, starting with television shows and growing into leadership roles as executives. Along the way, we’ve supported each other’s journeys and watched our careers evolve alongside the everchanging industry landscape.
