Nippon’s SixTONES goes global on Netflix
Netflix has taken global rights to Nippon TV’s hit entertainment show Golden SixTONES, which will become available to subscribers around the world from today.
SixTONES is a family variety show headed up by the Japanese boy band of the same name and features celeb guests taking part in quizzes, games and competitions.
The Netflix deal marks the first time a regular weekly entertainment show from Nippon TV will be distributed on Netflix, where it will be subtitled in numerous languages.
The show is already available via streamers Hulu and TVer in Japan.
Screen Producers Ireland welcomes unscripted tax move
Trade body Screen Producers Ireland has welcomed the European Commission’s approval for new unscripted audiovisual program tax incentives in the country.
The financial support will be delivered as a tax credit, covering up to 20% of production expenditures incurred within Ireland. Total aid is capped and cannot exceed 16% of the overall production cost.
To qualify for support, productions must have a minimum total budget of €250,000 and incur at least €125,000 in eligible expenditure within Ireland. A cultural test will apply.
Anthony Muldoon, director of strategic policy at Screen Producers Ireland said the tax incentive would be “transformative” for the country’s unscripted sector. Full details are to be revealed in coming weeks.
Max preps Finnish docuseries
Warner Bros Discovery streamer Max is preparing to air a Finnish docuseries about a teenager hacker.
Most Wanted: Teen Hacker, which is from Aller Studios, debuts in September and explores how Julius Kivimäki, now 27-year-old and known as Aleksanteri Kivimäki, became one of the FBI’s most wanted criminals.
The show explores how Kivimäki was living a luxurious life around the world, until the police finally caught him in a Las Vegas casino aged 15.
Sami Kieksi directs, with the docuseries written by Kieksi and Joni Soila. WBD Nordics duo Pil Brandstrup and Katja Santala commission for Max.
Starz extends Jigsaw, G-Unit’s drug docuseries
US cablenet Starz has extended its docuseries The BMF Documentary: Blowing Money Fast into a six-part second season.
The show explores the rise and fall of one of the most notorious drug syndicates in US history, known as Black Mafia Family (BMF), with the second run featuring an exclusive interview with one of the gang’s leaders, Terry Flenory.
Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson exec produces, Shan Nicholson is showrunner, and Jigsaw Productions and Jackson’s G-Unit Film & Television produce.
