Crime thriller is based on Karin Slaughter’s novel of the same name

HBO Max in EMEA and Australian streamer Stan are among buyers of Peacock’s upcoming psychological crime thriller, The Good Daughter.

The series, produced by Made Up Stories and CJ ENM-owned Fifth Season, is set to debut on NBC Universal’s streamer next year and is based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times-bestselling novel of the same name.

Fifth Season, which is distributing, has also struck deals with Bell Media (Canada) and Sky (New Zealand), while Sky - also owned by Peacock parent Comcast - revealed it had taken UK and Ireland rights in August.

The Good Daughter tracks the lives of sisters Charlotte (Meghann Fahy) and Samantha (Rose Byrne) Quinn, who have spent the past 20 years trying to piece together their lives following a single night of violence.

When another attack splinters the small town of Pikeville, Charlotte - now a lawyer - is the first witness on the scene and must work through both current and past traumas.

Slaughter (Pieces of Her, Will Trent) is writer and exec produces with Papandrea, Steve Hutensky and Casey Haver from Made Up Stories, alongside star Rose Byrne. Steph Green (Watchmen, The Americans) directs and executive produces all episodes.

Cast also includes Meghann Fahy (The White Lotus, The Perfect Couple), Brendan Gleeson (The Banshees of Inisherin), and Harper Steele (Will & Harper).

Fifth Season previously worked with Bruna Papandrea’s Made Up Stories on Nine Perfect Strangers.

Jennifer Ebell, exec vice president of television distribution at Fifth Season, said: “Bruna and the team at Made Up Stories have an unparalleled instinct for bringing page-turning fiction to the screen.

“After the success of Nine Perfect Strangers and The Last Anniversary, it’s a thrill to reunite for The Good Daughter – a gripping, female-driven crime drama that fuses family secrets, emotional gut-punches, and the kind of twists that keep you watching long past bedtime.”
