Nippon TV is expanding its US ranks with the appointment of ITV America’s Nick Ower as director of development & sales for unscripted.
Ower will drive the company’s format strategy across North America and Latin America, reporting to Tom Miyauchi, head of Nippon TV LA Business Office.
He will also work with Nippon’s Gyokuro Studio to represent its formats to streamers and broadcasters.
Ower was most recently director of development at US-based ITV Entertainment, working on shows including Love Island Games and Love Island: Beyond the Villa (Peacock), Twin Love(Prime Video), and My Mom, Your Dad (HBO Max).
His appointment is part of Nippon TV’s strategy to increase its LA presence and attract more international business.
The company launched its business hub in LA last year, with the Gyokuro Studio division aiming to develop 10 unscripted titles each year, reaching a total of 100 titles over the next 10 years. Formats will then be distributed worldwide.
Miyauchi said Ower “brings a proven track record and a wealth of experience in unscripted development, alongside a strong understanding of the North American market and excellent creative instincts, making him a valuable addition to our growing international strategies.”
Ower added: “By combining Nippon TV’s distinct creative spirit with a sharp focus on international scalability, I look forward to working with partners across the Americas to create high-impact content designed to resonate with audiences worldwide.”
