Netherlands-based streamer is owned by RTL Nederlands owner DPG Media

Dutch streamer Videoland is to buy Viaplay’s operations in the country for €142m (£122m).

Viaplay’s Netherlands-based streaming and broadcast division generated €149m revenue in 2025, with the entirety of the division set to fall under the control of Videoland, which is owned by Belgium’s DPG Media.

The latter acquired RTL Nederlands from Fremantle owner RTL Group last year for €1.1bn.

Viaplay said the sale was part of its ongoing strategy to refocus efforts on its core Nordic markets, following an expansion across Europe and the US that came to an end amid a severe financial downturn in 2023.

Prior to the collapse, Viaplay had commissioned local Dutch originals such as The Hunt, Roombeek and thriller The Guilty, but the shows were cancelled amid the financial turmoil.

Viaplay, which is part-owned by Canal+, added that the sale will not result in any changes to the group’s full year 2026 financial targets.

Jørgen Madsen Lindemann, Viaplay Group president and chief exec, said proceeds would accelerate the deleveraging and strengthening of the group’s financial profile.

“We are delighted that a Dutch business with such strong local roots is acquiring the operations, and will be able to focus on developing them further moving forward.”
