Carlton Television has launched an initiative to help students find opportunities in television journalism. The company is to provide 10 bursaries for post-graduate courses in journalism linked to City University, London; Cardiff University; Falmouth College of Arts and the University of Central England in Birmingham. It is hoped the awards will also encourage graduates from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds to apply. One of the bursaries is specifically for a Welsh speaker. Each bursary will be part of a training programme and the successful applicants will also receive a nine-month paid contract as a trainee journalist at one of the newsrooms in the Carlton group of companies.
