Top Boy, the new Channel 4 drama from writer Ronan Bennett, has been picked up for worldwide distribution by DRG.

The distributor will take the 4 x 60-minute drama, made by the producers of Oscar-winning feature The Last King of Scotland, to Mipcom in Cannes next week.

Top Boy stars Ashley Walters, Kierston Wareing and Kane Robinson, aka recording artist Kano, and is set among the gangs of a Hackney estate.

Cowboy Films and Easter Partisan have made the drama, directed by Yann Demange, which will air on C4 in November.

Anke Stoll, head of acquisitions and co-productions at DRG, is confident in the international appeal of the drama.

She said: “Top Boy is a story for every nation, a story of young people living in the toughest of city housing estates, where they are all determined to change their lives, for better or worse and with any consequence.”

Separately, DRG has secured new sales for BBC1 crime dramas Five Days 2 and Criminal Justice 2.

Both have been acquired for Fox International Channels in Norway and AXN in Spain.

Canada’s ARTV has picked up Criminal Justice 2 for broadcast throughout the country’s French-speaking territories while Five Days 2 has been confirmed for home entertainment release in the UK with IMC Vision and in Austrlaia with ABC.

It takes the total number of territories that have acquired the dramas to more than 100.
