Five has secured presenter Trisha Goddard to front her issues-led daytime show until the end of 2009.

A new deal signed this week will see Five extend the run of The Trisha Goddard Show by 180 episodes, taking the presenter to almost five years on the channel.

The move will come as a boost to new director of programmes Ben Gale, who started this week without the two executives that hired him: former chief executive Jane Lighting and ex director of content Lisa Opie.

The extension was greenlit by Five deputy commissioning editor for factual entertainment Ian Dunkley. The hour-long show continues to perform well for Five, stripped daily in a 10.30am slot. So far this year, it has delivered an average audience of 264,000, a share of 5.4%, putting Five ahead of Channel 4 and BBC2, which typically show children's programmes in the slot.

It will continue to be made by Town House Productions, the indie Goddard owns with Malcolm Allsop.

Goddard transferred to Five in January 2005 after six years with ITV, where she presented a daytime show with a similar format for Anglia Television.
