The Galaxy Network has secured live broadcast rights to the urban music Mobo Awards for the fifth year running.

The commercial youth dance network, owned by Chrysalis, will report the winners as they are announced at the Royal Albert Hall on 30 September.

Galaxy will broadcast live from backstage, interviewing artists and reporting the latest news from the event, and will sponsor the Best Single Award.

The network will also support the Mobo Unsung initiative, which searches for the best unsigned talent in the UK.

Galaxy DJ Steve Sutherland, himself a two-time Mobo Award winner, will be supporting this new activity with the launch of a new slot in his Sunday evening show that will break music from the urban scene.

The Mobo - Music of Black Origin - Awards have honoured musicians including Craig David, 50 Cent and George Benson since they were established in 1996.

The BBC recently signed a three-year deal with Mobo to lure the televised broadcast of the event from Channel 4 to BBC1. Additional coverage on Radio 1 and digital channel 1Xtra will also be scheduled.

Last year's awards were streamed live on the internet via a deal with AOL and although no final decision has yet been taken, it is understood that the awards will be streamed again. This years nominations will be announced on 25 August.
