Channel 4 reality dating competition The Honesty Box has been licenced for the first time by Spain’s Telecinco, Broadcast can reveal.

BBC Studios secured the international licence for the format, which will be adapted by BBCS label Brutal Media, which produces the Spanish versions of The 1% Club and The Weakest Link.

As with the UK original, the Spanish version - which has yet to be named - will assemble a cast of singles in ‘Truetopia’, where they will face the Honesty Box, an AI-enhanced software that asks probing questions about their feelings and publicly reveals whether they have told the truth. Only those who are totally honest have the chance of winning a cash prize.

The UK original was created by BBCS-backed Mettlemouse Entertainment and Motion Entertainment (a WPP Media company). It was hosted by Vicky Pattison with Married At First Sight Australia alumnus Lucinda Light on hand to offer guidance to the daters.

The nine-parter was E4’s most watched debut series launch on linear since 2022, landing in the 9pm weekday slot in April last year.

BBCS global productions president Matt Forde said: “High-impact reality is a major priority for BBC Studios, and The Honesty Box is exactly the kind of bold, scalable format we’re focused on building globally.

“It’s a fresh take on modern relationships and we’re delighted to see the format launching in Spain with Telecinco. We can’t wait to see how Spanish audiences respond as honesty is put to the ultimate test in the search for lasting love.”
