AVC Company Matsushita Electric Industrial Co executive vice-president Masahiko Kajitani has been awarded this year's Montreux Symposium achievement gold medal award. Kajitani, dubbed the father of Panasonic's DVCPro tape format family, has worked for the company since 1960. Pana-sonic also announced at the show that French PBS channel Reseau France Outre-mer (RFO) had ordered over 650 units of DVCPro including cameras and VTRs. The company said it planned to introduce a 24-frame-per-second high-definition video mastering system. The 1080 progressive line system, based around the company's D-5 HD VTR, is expected to be introduced before the end of 2001.
