Audio facility String and Tins has launched its sixth No Fixed Mix initiative, aimed at improving gender balance in technical sound roles.

No Fixed Mix is now open for applications, with the programme centred on encouraging women to consider a career in sound design.

The workshops will take place on weekday evenings between April and June at String and Tins’ studio in London.

The No Fixed Mix workshops provide a snapshot of the audio-post industry; tips, tools and resources to get started; follow up with a piece of work to help put a showreel together.

Guest speakers include Kate Hopkins, sound designer at Wounded Buffalo Sound Studios. Dolby will also be holding an immersive audio tour at its London studio as part of No Fixed Mix.

Successful applicants will also be provided with a free 12-month subscription licence to Avid Pro Tools Studio, Acoustica Premium and Source-Nexus Suite.

To apply for a place email nfm@stringandtins.com with a single page CV and a link to a single piece of sound work that you have created.

Strings and Tins says this could be audio only sound design, a collage of interesting field recordings, sound design to picture, or a piece of music with unusual instrumentation.

Applicants must be 18 years or older, as of 1 April 2026.

Closing date for applications is 9am on Tuesday (24 March).
