Remote media platform will provided free to productions where post house provides media processing

The Finish Line Production Buddy

The Finish Line has launched remote media platform Production Buddy.

The platform centralises a production’s media and allows users to review dailies, search rushes by metadata, transcription and visual detection, build stringouts and selects, and pass them onto editors, with nothing to relink or reconform.

Buddy is included for free when The Finish Line is handling media processing.

Buddy works by having a production offload its footage to a dedicated LucidLink filespace, and every file is transcribed and every person and object in it detected as it arrives, as well as who is speaking. The entire production can be searched by spoken words, the content on screen, objects, people, and file names, and can be transcribed on demand. As default, no processing is run in the cloud, but it can be if a production wants it to be.

The production team can then do a first pass before it is handed onto an editor, with a stringout, a selects reel or a rough assembly handed straight into Resolve, Avid or Premiere.

“Once we had proven Cine Review under the highest expectations in final post, I knew the same core system could be scaled into what I wanted to do for production,” said Zeb Chadfield, founder and chief vision officer at The Finish Line.

“We genuinely wanted to make a little buddy, a friendly tool for production that actually does what others have been selling, but failing at, for years. Under its friendly exterior is the most advanced technology we have ever built, and something I am truly proud of. Hassle free interchange with any editing system, no manual uploads and no waiting for processing before review. And because we built it for ourselves, it costs a production nothing to use. Budgets are under real pressure right now, and being able to take some of that off is something we are glad to do.”
